Spring Fever

After living in San Jose, CA for the past thirty-three years we have embraced the new experience of  living where there are definitive seasonal changes.  Last summer the temperatures often reached into the high 90's, which is very similar to San Jose summers, so that wasn't new for us. The incredible fall foliage though, was spectacular and I couldn't seem to take enough photos, as if I'd never again see such amazing trees. I even sent leaves to a friend who lives in San Francisco. I was down right giddy every time it snowed and I snuggled up in multiple layers when the temperatures never reached above the high 20's.  But as we are nearing the end of March and it is still cold, gray and rainy I have come to the conclusion that I have spring fever.  I am ready for some warmth and a few sunny days.  I always thought spring fever was just a term to describe a wanting for change.  Turns out, it actually has defined symptoms, who knew?!

Spring fever, that reputed and seemingly infectious malady that strikes when the days lengthen and temperatures begin to climb, has been blamed for feverish bouts of house-cleaning, restless behavior in the classroom, distraction in meetings and love struck dazes... Some scientists think spring fever is more than just a colloquialism -- they think it's a constellation of symptoms brought about by hormonal changes in the body...  Anthropologists have suggested that spring fever may have developed over the course of human evolution. They point out that early humans often spent winter in a state of near-hibernation. Then, when spring arrived, they would enter an active period of intense hunting, gathering and procreating. http://articles.latimes.com/2008/mar/31/health/he-esoterica31

I think our resident gardener is feeling it as well, itchy to dig in the dirt and bring our gardens back to life.   We are pushing our luck and hoping the "cold" is really behind us and we can look for April showers to bring May flowers.

Waiting to be planted

Purple heather and pink roses will grow up around our sign

  1. With all of those beautiful spring flowers to lift you spring is definitely on its way. We've had a strangely balmy few days but now the "cold wind doth blow" so maybe back to March.
May i ask which place did you select your facebook badge from I had some "interesting" results and couldn't quite work out where to put the second code until I finally gave up! Still I suppose it is a challenge!
Take care and enjoy the spring
